Global warming and climate change are global problems that have begun to occur since the late 20th century. The start of the industrial era caused carbon emissions to increase significantly and triggered an increase in the earth’s surface temperature.
The Earth’s ever-increasing temperature can influence climate change and trigger a series of natural disasters, food crises, and even mass extinction. Therefore, now the world community is focusing on preventing this crisis, including the go green movement.
There are several activities that include the go green movement, including:
- Utilize renewable energy
- Reducing air, water and land pollution
- Carry out reforestation
- Reducing consumption of plastic waste and other polluting products
- Familiarize yourself with the application of recycling organic and inorganic waste
The go green movement can be applied to all aspects of life, anywhere and at any time. Go green is also highly recommended to be applied at home, there are also ways to apply go green at home including:
-
Stop using non-recyclable or single-use items
Reduce plastic waste by stopping the use of single-use items. For example, when buying plastic bottled drinking water, switch to drinking bottles that can be used many times (reusable bottles). This is much more economical than always buying single-use plastic bottled water. -
Save water usage
Start by saving on water usage. This can be done by using water used from washing fruit, rice and organic materials to water plants, creating a water recycling system at home, using a water sprayer for irrigation, collecting rainwater for gardening or washing purposes -
Save energy
Take advantage of natural energy for various daily activities at home. For example, using sunlight to dry instead of using a washing machine dryer. Avoid turning on the lights when it’s bright or switch to automatic lights that turn themselves off when it’s bright. This can reduce electricity usage. Unplug sockets, charger heads, or electronic equipment that is not in use. Apart from that, you can also turn off the lights and air conditioning while sleeping. -
Plant a tree in your yard
If possible, plant a tree in your yard. Trees can help make a house that was previously barren feel shadier. This can certainly reduce the use of fans or AC. Apart from that, trees also function as absorbers of carbon dioxide in the environment so that the air they breathe is cleaner.
